Things you can do

Volunteers are the driving force behind many successfull communities.

Volunteering for community service is a great way to improve our community and is required by many schools. Volunteering to work on projects can sometimes get complicated. Who do I contact? Where do I go? What should I bring? For students the process is even more intimidating.

The projectPG.org information network allows volunteers and students to keep track of their volunteer history using a simple, inuitive interface. Their personalized, private community service record may come in handly in the future. Additionally, volunteers and students can use projectPG.org to find projects that need volunteers simplifying the community service process.

Projects showing this star next to the title have Volunteer Opportunities.

Volunteers and students can create their own community service projects! Doing community service is noble. Brainstorming, organizing and coordinating a new project is another thing all together. Volunteers and students are encouraged to create new community service Projects. See a park that needs cleaned up, go for it!

Tracking community service via the internet allows volunteers and students to keep their community service history in a centralized place for years to come. Volunteers and students visit their own personlized and private profile to manage their community service histories. Common tasks include entering information about community services they have performed, finding new community service opportunities and printing "Volunteer Slips" to document their efforts.

College admissions applications and job applications look great when students have a history of community service available. If a local school has a community service requirement students can print a "Volunteer Slip" from their Community Profile to give to their schools community service administrator. In most cases the printed information will satisfy the schools requirement. Project coordinators typically "approve" students community service time to further document their efforts.

To Volunteer for Community Service browse the list of Project Pages and look for organizations showing the Volunteer Star. Clicking the organizations name will show that organizations home page. From this point, click the "Project Pages" link (under the organization name) to display possible community service opportunities. Use the contact information provided on the Project Page to volunteer.

After doing community service work log-in and enter a new Service Record from "My Projects Center", your private community service history is only available to you and is visibile to knowone else*. Logging your service hours in a permanents, web-based database will help you in the years to come. Thank you in advance for helping improve Pacific Grove.

* If you are a student and a parent created your log-in, that parent will be able to help you manage your service history.
