Things you can do

projectPG.org Terms and Conditions of Use

projectPG.org was established by a Pacific Grove citizen to complete a vision to offer anyone in Pacific Grove the ability to easily find and do community service, recruit help for community based projects and distribute community related information via automated e-mail. The goal is to empower all members of the community to embrace modern technology without the threat of complication.

projectPG.org may only be used for it's intended purpose. Site visitors that join the community mailing list always have the ability to remove their address from the list. Only e-mail address owners can enter their e-mail addresses to join the list.

Children not over the age of 13 cannot sign-up to use the service without a parent or guardians assistance. Parents sign-up, then create additional Log-ins (Screen Names) for their children. We are strict in policing this policy. If you are a child, by all means - we want you to track your community service using the site, your parents can get you started.

Project Pages. If you create and manage Project Pages keep the entire community in mind. We are trying to help each other stay informed. If you create Project Pages that are "specialized" and generally offer no benefit to the community, please don't waste people's time (and our money!). Use good judgement, if the information you are posting is not generally useful to the majortiy of the population you shouldn't post it. If you are a business, your special offers, coupons and "about us" informatin IS useful. A large part of this effort it to help local citizens learn about local businesses and the importance of shopping "local."

System abuse is possible, community members are responsible for policing the site and are encouraged to report abuse. In any democracy what's best for the majority will sometimes inconvenience the minority. If you have created any site content (projects) and abuse related to your project is reported and your project is removed we are sorry but the site visitor abuse reporting policy is required to ensure the best experience for the majority.

Project Pages are subject to removal if they contain any of the following things:

  1. Offensive language.
  2. Offensive pictures.
  3. Promotions from businesses outside the general Pacific Grove area.
  4. Derogitory or generally "negative" remarks about any individual, civic leader, business or organization in OR outside Pacific Grove. This site is not a place to post your negative opinions or rants.
  5. Solicitations from organizations outside the general Pacific Grove area.
  6. Names + (phone numbers or addresses) of children under the age of 13 (names alone are OK).
  7. Any e-mail address! E-mail addresses are never displayed on the site. Project Pages have contacts that visitors can send an e-mail to by clicking a link...the e-mail address is not displayed.
  8. Duplicate Pages or Organizations. Anyone that creates a Project Page must make sure they are not posting something that someone else already posted. This is especially important when creating "simple" calendar entries or "harmless" notices to the community.

Most abuse reports submitted are related to innocent mistakes, this is OK, opinions sometimes jade what is "allowed or not." Generally, if you keep the community in mind and use sound judgement Project Pages you create won't get flagged. However, if an excessive number of abuse reports are associated with pages you have created, your Screen Name will be banned. Depending on the content related to the abuse, you could also face criminal charges. This sounds harsh, but it's important to understand how serious we are about policing OUR COMMUNITIES information network.

Information entered by you into the community database may get edited by site administrators. Obvious errors made during data entry are easily repaired by administrators. It's easier for site administrators to "fix" the errors than it is to wait for the content creator to fix it themselves. This means that if you enter some information and it's obviously wrong, site administrators may edit your content without your consent.

Site Administrators can remove ANY CONTENT created by a community member without advance notice or warning. This means that we don't need to get your approval to remove something you enter into the community database. If site administrators think your content isn't supporting the mission of the project (Community Information), it may get removed. Yes, this is a judgement call. Almost zero content gets removed by administrators.

Courtesy: If you don't like someone's information, please be courteous. We are not here to berate each other. We, as community members and visitors to this site are trying to help each other. If you don't want to help and contribute to the community, you are at the wrong place.

You may log in only through your Log-In Id and password: Don't log in with another users credentials, ever!

If you change your email address: Do not create a new account. Log in with your current Screen Name and update your email address to your new email address.

You may only have one account: Don't create duplicate accounts. Sometimes new accounts are created by innocent mistake (like losing your email address and getting another one), this is ok. Just don't do it on purpose. Contact us if you need help.

projectPG.org can only be used for lawful purposes: Our community is located in the United States, if you are not, you are welcome to browse the site. But, if it's not legal in the United States it's not legal in Pacific Grove. "Legal in my country" doesn't hold water. This is a biggie, don't break the law.

Do not impersonate someone else: Don't try to lead people to think you're someone you're not... and don't even think about using someone else's log-in. Further, the creation of a second account for the purpose of either circumventing a prior sanction (such as a suspension) or harassing any member (including the site operators) will not be tolerated. If necessary, legal action against you will be considered.

Planning Illegal Activities: Computer viruses and counterfeiting; we interpret to mean that even asking for help in producing what might be a virus is grounds for being banned. Don't even discuss things such as; building a bomb, pirating software, conspiring against someone, etc. It isn't funny and it won't be tolerated. Yes, we will call the authorities.

Promoting a Product or Service: This system costs more than you might think to operate. Because of that, promoting a product or service, even by "innocently" putting your company's name in a project posting is not allowed if your business is not in the general area of Pacific Grove and your organization is not in the business category. Yes, "general" is a judgement term, we think you get the idea. If you have any kind of financial interest in a Project and it referes to an "out-of-town" enterprise, you are violating these terms. We don't make money doing this, why should you? There are some exceptions to this rule. Example: You are an organization that has a list of sponsors that support your operation. Your organization is in the Community Organization category. Creating a Project Page called "Sponsors" then listing them within your organizations listing is ok. If your not sure about this, feel free to contact us. If your a member of the community and you think it's appropriate, it probably is ;-)

Foul Language: We do ask that all community members refrain from using curse words in their Screen Names or names of projects or in any text that will display on screen. Filtering software in schools and libraries often renders entire pages invisible when it detects a single instance of foul language, so one expletive-filled Screen Name or project name can make a screen unreadable to community members using public computers. We will remove stuff we deem harassing or offensive, but we will not be held liable for anything you stumble across that may anger or offend you. By signing up and becoming a community member, you are acknowledging that all information posted and listed expresses the views and opinions of the original poster, and not the administrators of this site.

Opting out is easy. There is an E-mail Preferences link at the bottom of every e-mail originating from projectPG.org. If you joined the community mailing list and no longer want to receive e-mails click the link then follow the onscreen instructions.

Advertising on projectPG.org is not supported. Realistically, every Project Page is an advertisment! Automated community information e-mails sometimes contain promotional material, words or information related to LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESESS. Please support these organizations, their success is critical to our community!
